CloseFor 50 years, the Lawrence Civic Choir has served as a cornerstone for local singers who love to perform serious, four-part choral music led by a professional artistic director. New voices are welcome to join the LCC at our first three rehearsals each season. Formal auditions are not required, but singers must be able to read music and sing tunefully. Registration for the 2024-2025 season will begin August 19th for new and returning members.
The Lawrence Civic Choir meets for rehearsals at First Baptist Church, 1330 Kasold Dr, Lawrence, Kansas, on Mondays from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Please enter through the sanctuary doors on the south corner of the building.
Membership dues help contribute to the Lawrence Civic Choir's annual fund, which makes possible everything from salaries for hired professionals (artistic director, accompanist) to sheet music and administrative costs--even this website. Membership dues, as follow, are per semester.
$55 | New and Returning Members
$25 | Students (With Valid Student ID)
Registrants also pay a music deposit of $25. This deposit is refunded upon return of sheet music. Although the Lawrence Civic Choir has accumulated a large library of sheet music, the LCC also receives some music on loan, which must be returned to the loaning library at the end of the semester.
The music deposit allows for the replacement of lost or damaged sheet music.
Refunds are offered in the form of Hyvee or Dillon's gift cards.
New singers will be expected to order dresses or tuxedos, whichever applies, early in the semester to assure delivery. Concert attire must be paid for prior to ordering. The cost for tuxedos is approximately $100, dresses approximately $95. The choir will charge the cost of the outfit plus appropriate shipping and handling. Any alterations will be paid for by the individual choir member.
We ask that you miss no more than two rehearsals each semester. Our musical selections are often challenging and we strive for a high level of precision and musicality. If you anticipate being absent for more than this number of rehearsals please discuss your situation with the artistic director. For our concert week, it is highly encouraged that you attend both the scheduled Monday evening rehearsal as well as the Friday dress rehearsal.
